PET Composite Current Collector in Lithium-ion Batteries
Dec 5,2023

The current collector is one of the indispensable components in lithium-ion batteries. It can not only carry active substances, but also collect and output the current generated by electrode active substances, which is beneficial for reducing the internal resistance of lithium-ion batteries, improving the Coulombic efficiency, cycle stability, and rate performance of batteries. At present, the positive electrode of lithium-ion batteries uses aluminum foil and the negative electrode uses copper foil.

Lithium batteries are developing towards high energy density and high safety, while lithium current collectors are developing towards thinner, microporous, high tensile strength, and high elongation. High conductivity, high stability, strong adhesion, low cost, and flexibility and thinness are the core demands of battery manufacturers for current collectors. Composite current collectors are a promising new type of lithium battery current collector material. Composite current collector includes composite aluminum foil used for the positive electrode and composite copper foil used for the negative electrode.

Composite current collector is a composite material that uses PET/PI/PP plastic film as the base film and undergoes vacuum coating and other processes to stack copper/aluminum molecules on both sides. Compared with traditional collectors, composite collectors have advantages such as high safety, high energy density, low cost, long lifespan, and strong compatibility.
